An 18-year-old Bulloch County man was arrested Tuesday after deputies said he came to a playground to meet a 13-year-old girl to whom he was sending sexually explicit text messages.
Bulloch County Sheriff’s deputies were waiting for Devon Garrit Roy Lemay, 18, Martin Lanier Road, when he arrived at the place he expected to meet the 13-year-old victim, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.
The girl’s father contacted authorities Monday, concerned about his daughter receiving “unwanted, sexually graphic text messages” from Lemay, whom the girl said she did not know.
Lemay “indicated a desire to meet the juvenile in person for sexual reasons,” Anderson said. “Investigators and deputies set up surveillance at the designated location, a playground selected by the suspect, and were able to take him into custody.”
After further investigation, Lemay was charged with sexual exploitation of a child and enticing a child for indecent purposes. He was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he is being held without bond pending a court hearing, he said.
All parents should be “actively involved in their children’s social networking and should routinely monitor text messaging and emails for inappropriate content,” Anderson said.
Bulloch County Sheriff’s Inv. Jason Long is handling the case, and may be reached at 764-8888. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call Long.
