A man with a gun robbed a second credit union Wednesday morning, following an arrest made in Tuesday’s armed robbery of Geovista Credit Union on South Main Street.
Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said a lone gunman entered Core Credit Union’s Market District branch around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, demanded cash, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.” No one was injured in either robbery.
Tuesday, two men masked with red bandannas, wearing black clothing, walked into Geovista Credit Union, pulled a gun and ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash as well, said Statesboro Police Capt. Scott Brunson.
Statesboro Police investigators saturated the area immediately after Tuesday’s robbery, seeking the suspects around the Mikell and Rackley streets area. One male suspect was arrested and put on “an investigative hold” Tuesday night, Turner said, but the man’s identity has not yet been released due to the ongoing investigation.
Police also believe the robberies are connected, he said. After the arrests Tuesday night, one suspect remained at large, and only one man robbed Core Credit Union Wednesday, reports stated.
The Core Credit robbery suspect is a black male, standing about 6’6”, weighing around 275 pounds, he said.
Statesboro Police are working in conjunction with Statesboro agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Brunson said.
Any citizens who may have information about the armed robbery incidents are asked to contact the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911. All calls will remain confidential, he said.
