A Screven County school teacher faces charges after reportedly slapping a juvenile student in the face.
Sylvania police and Screven County Sheriff’s deputies responded Aug. 24 to Screven County Elementary School, where they met with members of the Screven County Board of Education, school staff, the victim and the victim’s parents, said Sylvania Police Chief Shawn Burke.
Witnesses there said a teacher, Dr. Emma Roundtree, reportedly “struck the child in the face with an open hand,” he said.
After further investigation, a warrant for Roundtree was issued Aug, 27, and she turned herself in to the Screven County Jail the next day, he said.
Roundtree was later released on a $1,000 bond and will face further court appearances regarding the matter, he said.
