The following are among the food service establishments inspected in July by the Bulloch County Health Department. The department scores on a 100-percentile scale. Kitchens are inspected at least every four months and are required to post their score sheets in public. The score and selected comments from health inspectors are included in each report. All eating establishments are located in Statesboro, except where noted. To view all restaurant scores, visit dph.georgia.gov/environmental-health-inspections and select Bulloch County.


July 26

➤ D's Friendly Diner, 503 Northside Drive East Suite A

Foods removed from original packaging stored in Ziploc bags -- hamburger patties, chicken breasts, etc. -- in freezer. Should be labeled with a common name. Replace busted seal on freezer. Grease-encrusted area of kitchen should be thoroughly cleaned -- around/behind equipment on cook line, in back area around prep sinks. Replace any water-damaged ceiling tiles. Check functioning of hood; very smoky in facility during time of inspection. Inspector: Clifton.

No paper towels at hand sink. Rotten cucumber in walk-in cooler; discarded. Utensils on cook line in bucket of water, spoon next to tea urn in pitcher of water. Utensils must be cleaned and sanitized in between uses. If storing in water in between uses, water temp should be 171 degrees F or above. Using plastic oyster containers to store other foods -- lemons. These are single-use containers and should not be reused in the restaurant. Observed cracked plates, no longer smooth and easily cleanable; discard. Food encrustation between equipment on cook line; grease/debris accumulation on grill. Clean cook line thoroughly. Personal items -- cell phones -- being kept in food prep area; should be stored in a designated area. Personal drinks on bottom shelves next to food items; should be stored in a bin or away from foods. Inspector: Clifton.

Observed food handler washing off gloves in the hand-washing sink. Corrected on-site; spoke with the person in charge that food handlers must change gloves and wash hands between tasks.  Observed servers handling cut lemons with bare hands. Observed dried food debris on the upper portion inside the microwave. Observed food handlers without proper hair restraints. Observed utensils and spoons stored in containers of water. Observed flies by the 3-compartment.Observed back door not sealing. Inspector: Anderson.

Hand sink next to dishwasher full of utensils, blocked by cleaning cart. Do not block hand sink; should always be accessible. Fly strip hanging over bulk storage container. Do not hang fly strips over food prep or storage areas. Flies in kitchen. Keep front door closed to prevent flies. Inspector: Clifton.
