An infant was removed from an Aden Lanier Road home Thursday after deputies found 16 marijuana plants growing in the home.

The fact that the baby’s parents were both arrested and the home environment was “unsanitary” were factors in the child being placed with a relative, said Bulloch County Sheriff Noel Brown.

Deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. Thursday to a reported domestic dispute call at an Aden Lanier Road home in the 900 block and found the front door ajar, he said. Deputies called out, but no one answered.

“After announcing their presence several times and receiving no verbal response, deputies entered the home to ensure there were no injured persons from the domestic violence call,” he said.

During a sweep of the home to see if anyone was there, deputies discovered a “marijuana grow operation” in some rooms, with marijuana plants growing in various stages in buckets under grow lights. Bulloch County sheriff’s Capt. Todd Hutchens said the street value of the plants is $16,000.

The deputies called the Bulloch County Crime Suppression Team to the scene and began looking for the people involved in the reported domestic dispute, checking the area and neighbor’s homes. They found the female complainant, Chandra Sadira Conner, 37, at a nearby relative’s house, and deputies discussed the domestic situation as they walked back to her home, Brown said.

During the walk, deputies found she had a pill bottle containing an undisclosed amount of crystal methamphetamine. When they tried to arrest her, she fled, but was soon captured, he said.

Deputies reached her husband, Charles Hogan Conner, 46, by phone and asked him to come to his house, Brown said. Once he arrived, he gave investigators consent to search his home, and when they found the marijuana plants, he “took full responsibility and ownership of the operation.”

When deputies learned the couple had an infant child, they contacted the Bulloch County Department of Family and Children Services, and arrangements were made for the baby to be placed with a relative, he said.

Chandra Connor was charged with obstruction, possession of drug-related objects and possession of methamphetamine. Charles Conner was charged with manufacturing marijuana. They were both arrested and taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where they remain without bond, he said.

The CST investigators collected the evidence at the scene, and the case will be forwarded to the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, he said.
