Superintendent Charles Wilson recommended a new principal for Portal Middle High School. But the Bulloch County Board of Education on Thursday rejected his recommendation on an unusually mixed vote with one member in favor, two abstaining, four opposed and one absent. The leadership post at the grades 6-12 school in Portal will be left vacant by the retirement, effective June 30, of Dr. Karen Doty, principal there for the last two years of her 31-year career that included a longer tenure as principal of Langston Chapel Elementary School.
