Police: Weekend armed robberies have similarities

There are similarities between a convenience store armed robbery Friday and another one Saturday, and sheriff's investigators hope citizens can help provide information that will solve both crimes.

Only one suspect robbed Mighty Mike's Hot Stop near Gateway Industrial Park on U.S. 301 South Saturday, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.  Three men were involved in Friday's armed robbery.

A black male, in his late teens to early 20's, entered the Gateway area store around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, armed with a pistol. He demanded money, and the clerk gave him a small amount "that was on hand," he said.

The suspect, described as standing around 5'9", weighing 145-160 pounds, with short black hair, was wearing a black shirt and plaid shorts with black high top shoes. He fled from the store after getting the cash and possibly got into "a small blue car that was waiting a short distance away," Anderson said.

Two customers that were in  the store during the robbery left before Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies arrived, he said.  One was an older white female and the other was an older black male, and " deputies would like to speak to these witnesses," he said.

The suspect's description is similar to one of the suspects in Friday's armed robbery at the Mighty Mike's Hot Stop at the intersection of Ga. 46 and Ga. 67.

Three armed men burst into the store around 11:30 p.m. Friday night while the clerk was mopping the floor. One man held a shotgun, while the other two wielded pistols, Anderson said.

The three demanded cash, and the victim " gave them the small amount of cash he had on hand and some lottery tickets," he said. "The robbery was interrupted by a customer coming to the door. One of the suspects threatened the customer, who promptly got back into his car and drove off."

No one was harmed during either robbery, he said.

The suspects in Friday's armed robbery were described as follows: one man was described as a black male in his early 20's, standing 5'6", weighing around 160-170 pounds, wearing a blue tee shirt and jeans. His face was covered and he was carrying a shotgun.

The second suspect is described as a black male, late teens to early 20's, standing 5'4" and weighing around 140 pounds, Anderson said. He had a "light complexion, short black hair, was wearing a blue tee shirt and jeans, armed with a pistol."

The third suspect was also a black male, late teens to early 20's, standing 5'5", weighing around 150 pounds, he said. He was of "medium complexion, short black hair, wearing a black tee shirt and black jeans, armed with a pistol."

Anyone with information about either robbery or the suspects is asked to contact Bulloch County Sheriff's Investigator Jason Long at 764-1747 or 764-8888, he said.
