Incidents
BROAD STREET/EAST CHERRY STREET — Police tried to stop a pickup truck with a defective headlight at 11:21 p.m. Friday, but the driver didn’t stop. Then he ran from the vehicle at East Cherry and Donaldson streets, but was caught a short time later. The driver tried to report the vehicle as stolen. He was arrested, and a search of the vehicle incident to arrest revealed an amount of suspected crack cocaine.
WAL-MART — An accounting clerk told police at 8:48 a.m. Monday that she discovered a counterfeit $20 bill that would have been passed between 12:01 a.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Saturday.
In a separate incident, a store employee told police at 6:21 p.m. Monday that she saw another employee steal cash on two occasions, totaling $300, between
Oct. 10 and Monday. She was fired and escorted off the premises, but the reporting employee said she would pursue charges.
In still another incident, a store employee told police at 1:28 p.m. Tuesday that a man entered the store without any merchandise, selected three items, then went to customer service and made a fraudulent return, for which he received a gift card for $8.79. He was then detained, the gift card was deactivated, and he was arrested.
STATESBORO MALL — Police responded at
11:37 a.m. Monday in reference to criminal trespass. A man who had previously been warned to stay away from the mall was there, so he was arrested. It was also discovered that he had a pair of infant microfleece pants with him from The Children’s Place. His companion, a woman, was warned not to return to The Children’s Place.
In a separate incident, a J.C. Penney employee told police at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday that he confronted a woman who selected 14 clothing items, with a total value of $340, and concealed them in her bag in the dressing room. She returned them and then was arrested.
EAST GEORGIA REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER — A pharmacy employee told police at 8:05 p.m. Monday that a woman forged her prescription on Sept. 24 and used it for a different medication, 90 hydrocodone pills.
STATESBORO HIGH SCHOOL — Police responded at 11:25 a.m. Monday in reference to a disturbance inside the cafeteria. A male juvenile student was taken into custody, charged with battery and released to his mother’s custody. The report lists the weapon type as “hands/fist, etc.” and lists one juvenile as the victim and one juvenile as the offender. No further information was provided.
SOUTH ZETTEROWER AVENUE/EAST MAIN STREET — A woman told police at 3:26 p.m. Monday that she and her live-in boyfriend argued in her vehicle about their relationship. He punched her in the face and shoved her out of the vehicle while it was stopped at a stop sign, and then he took $50 cash from her purse and drove off.

GREAT DANE — A man told police that between 9:10 and 11:40 a.m. Monday, someone broke into his car and stole $200 cash and a gold Michael Kors watch. The offender broke the passenger-side middle glass with a burnt piece of wood, which was in the back seat along with broken glass.
LIVE OAK LOOP — (Ellabell) A woman told deputies at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday that her ex-boyfriend sent her several harassing text messages after they broke up, even after she asked him to stop.

LAKESIDE CAFÉ — Two women told police that between 8 p.m. and midnight Thursday, someone stole a total of $11 from their purses in the rear break room.
C LOT — A man told police that between 1 a.m. Thursday and 11:15 a.m. Friday, someone stole the tow hook off the front bumper of his silver 2000 BMW 328i.
CENTENNIAL PLACE — A woman told police that between 12:01 and 11 a.m. Friday, someone wrote the names of two residents on the stairwell wall in red going from the first floor to the third. The students whose names were written said they didn’t do it. Maintenance staff painted over the writing.
Also, a man told police that a picnic table was melted with a big hole in the middle caused by a fire. The man said this occurred sometime between 4 p.m. Thursday and 4:30 p.m. Friday.
In yet another incident, a man told police that between 10 p.m. Nov. 11 and
3 p.m. Friday, someone stole an Xbox 360 from the common area of his unit. He said he leaves the apartment’s main door open because of everyone who comes in and out.
EAGLE VILLAGE — Police responded to a unit at 9:20 p.m. Saturday in reference to the smell of marijuana. One of the residents, an 18-year-old woman, smelled of alcohol and registered 0.108 percent blood alcohol content on a breath test, above the level considered legally drunk. A search of the unit revealed a grinder and a glass jar that smelled of marijuana in a duffel bag in the living room. The duffel bag’s owner was not present. The woman who smelled of alcohol was judicially referred to university officials for punishment but was not arrested.
In a separate incident, police responded to a unit at 1:22 a.m. Friday in reference to a burglary. The residents said that between 9:30 p.m. Thursday and
1 a.m. Friday, an Xbox One, Xbox 360, three controllers, two video games and a black Lenovo laptop computer were stolen from their unlocked apartment.
SOUTHERN PINES — Police took a report at
2:20 p.m. Sunday of a possible sexual assault. An 18-year-old woman was listed as the complainant, a juvenile was listed as the victim, and a 19-year-old man was listed as the “offender/suspect/subject.” The incident type was listed as sodomy, child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes, and the location was listed as Southern Pines. The status was listed as “exceptionally cleared,” and there is no indication an arrest was made. An incident report provided no further details.
NESSMITH-LANE CONFERENCE CENTER — A physical plant employee told police at 12:50 p.m. Thursday that a heart shape was cut into the roof with the names “Sam and Brad” in the center of the heart, causing $1,200 damage. The damage reportedly took place between 7 a.m. Sept. 13 and 10 a.m. Nov. 10.
FREEDOM’S LANDING — Police were dispatched at 1:43 p.m. Thursday in reference to a suspicious person pulling on car door handles. Two women said they saw a man and a woman trying door handles, including on a car belonging to one of the reporting women. The man and woman were arrested. Officers found that a Garmin GPS device and an Apple iPod had been stolen from a car parked in the lot.
HENDERSON LIBRARY — A woman told police at 1:48 p.m. Thursday that she had left her purse in the library at 6:57 p.m. Nov. 12. She received an email at 2:41 a.m. Thursday from library staff telling her where she could retrieve her purse. When she got her purse, she found that $200 cash was missing.
RUSSELL UNION ROTUNDA — Police were dispatched at 8:54 p.m. Thursday in reference to threatening remarks. Two men told police that while they were waiting for a Christian concert to begin outside, another man asked him about God and homosexuality, left, then returned and said, “I will kill you both,” then left. Officers found the suspect, and he admitted to telling two men he would kill them. When the officer asked how, he said, “You know how,” and would not elaborate. The men who initially made the report said they didn’t feel threatened and didn’t wish to pursue charges. Police asked the suspect to leave and said he would be banned from campus. The suspect walked over to a nearby bench, sat down, then got up and danced a few minutes later. Police arrested him.
KNIGHT DRIVE — Officers were assisting Statesboro police in searching for a robbery suspect at 1:56 a.m. Friday when they saw a woman lying on the ground. As GSU officers approached, a man helped the woman up. The woman refused to give a breath sample and, because of the search for a robbery suspect, university officers let her continue home with the man and told her she would be judicially referred to university officials for punishment.
CAMPUS — A man was arrested Monday in connection with the thefts of six bicycles during the fall semester. The thefts to which he was connected occurred: Southern Pines bike rack between Sept. 27 and 29, bike rack between Carroll Building and Art Building Oct. 6, Dining Commons bike rack between
Oct. 4 and 5, bike rack at Kennedy Complex between July 17 and Oct. 20 (this bicycle was located later Oct. 20 on the Dining Commons bike rack with a new lock placed on it), Dining Commons bike rack between Oct. 27 and
28 (this bicycle was located Oct. 28 chained to the railing between Dining Commons and the University Store), and bike rack at Centennial Place
Oct. 29 (this bicycle was found Oct. 29 at the Dining Commons bike rack). Six arrest warrants were served on the suspect at 3:30 p.m. Monday at GSU Public Safety.
LANIER DRIVE — Police saw an SUV driving on Lanier Drive toward Veterans Memorial Parkway without its headlights on at 2:03 a.m. Nov. 8. An officer stopped the vehicle in the Paulson Stadium parking lot. Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A clear plastic baggy with suspected marijuana was found in the passenger floorboard. One of the passengers, who told police he had marijuana, was arrested. The driver was issued a warning for driving without headlights.
FAIR ROAD — Police stopped a vehicle that was driving erratically at
4:11 a.m. Nov. 12. The driver smelled of alcohol, failed field sobriety tests and registered 0.141 percent blood alcohol content on a breath test. He also was found to have three 40-mg Vyvanse pills, for which he admitted he did not have a prescription. He was arrested and judicially referred, and an 18-year-old passenger, who registered 0.94 percent blood alcohol content on a breath test, was judicially referred to university officials for punishment but was not arrested.
SOUTHERN ADVENTURES — A man told police that his black-and-green Monster mountain bike, valued at $550, was stolen from a bike rack outside the business between midnight Nov. 4 and 3:05 p.m. Tuesday.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY BUILDING — A man told police that his black Swiss Army book bag, valued at $70, containing a TI-83 graphing calculator valued at $100, was stolen from under his green jacket on a bench in front of a classroom between 3:11 and 3:25 p.m. Tuesday.
PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING — A sexual assault was reported at
6:40 a.m. Wednesday. A male was listed as an offender, and the victim was listed as “confidential.” The report was forwarded to the Statesboro Police Department. No further information was given in a university police incident report.
