A burglary at a local convenience store early Friday morning was an inside job, police said.
Statesboro Police officers responded to an alarm sounding at Mighty Mike's #2 on U.S. 301 North early Friday morning and found the front door of the store unlocked, said Det. Terry Briley.
Police incident reports state the store manager arrived and met with Briley and Det. Kelphie Lundy, and said a bank deposit bag was missing from an unsecured safe.
Lundy said the total money missing was $356.91.
Investigations revealed a store employee, Elisha Reneka Murphy, 25, Finch Mobile Home Park, entered the store around 3 a.m. and removed a BB&T bank bag containing a deposit, he said.
Briley said the bag, containing part of the money, was found in a wooded area across from the Bulloch County Sheriff's Department.
Murphy, upon being questioned by police, admitted to the burglary. She was charged with the crime and taken to the Bulloch County Jail, Lundy said.
As of Friday afternoon, Murphy was being held on a $2,000 bond, according to jail records.
