Statesboro Police are investigating the death of a man who collapsed Wednesday while working on the roof of a local fast food restaurant.
Kenneth Wade Richardson, 50, Wallace, South Carolina, "died of natural causes," said Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch.
Richardson, an independent contractor who worked in heating and air conditioning, had been working on the roof at Bojangles on Fair Road when he collapsed. Futch said he had been complaining of chest pain, and autopsy reports indicated he died of a "myocardial infarction," or heart attack, he said.
Bulloch Central 911 dispatched Statesboro Police, Statesboro firefighters and Bulloch County EMS to the restaurant around 8:15 p.m. regarding a sick person. Officers and other responders were directed to the restaurant's roof, where they found Richardson "unresponsive," said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York.
Futch was called to the scene and pronounced Richardson deceased, he said.
Richardson's body was transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Coastal Crime Lab for an autopsy.
The case remains under investigation by the Statesboro Police Department, York said. Futch said the death was not heat-related and no fouls play was suspected.
