Statesboro Police are investigating an armed robbery at Campus Club Apartments Tuesday where three men robbed a male victim at gunpoint, according to Statesboro Police reports.
Bulloch County Sheriff’s Deputy Reynaldo Rodriquez responded to a “bolo” ( be on the lookout” issued by Statesboro Police and spotted two men fitting the description the victim gave of the three suspects, he stated in a sheriff’s report.
The men were described as black males having dread locks, reports stated.
After checking the two men’s identification and running background checks, which revealed no warrants, he questioned the men about why they were in the area. Both said they were waiting for a man in a nearby building but could not say which specific apartment he was in, Rodriquez said in reports.
“The suspects were acting suspicious and nervous” and ran after he left the area, he said.
Rodriquez met with Statesboro Police Officer Sebastian Colquitt and they both followed the suspects, who had run into a nearby building.
When one tried running from Colquitt, he encountered Rodriquez, who stopped him and patted him down.
The suspect, identified as Curtis Lee Owens Jr., 19, Crescent Street, Waycross, was found t  be carrying a pistol in his jacket, Rodriquez said.
Owens was placed under arrest on charges of  carrying a concealed weapon and, carrying a pistol without a license.
Statesboro Det. Tommy Brown, who was already at the scene of the armed robbery and had begin investigating, was notified of the arrest while other officers searched for the second and “ possibly third” suspect, he said.
A hold was placed on  the suspect’s vehicle, and a short that matched the one worn by one of the  three armed robbery suspects was found under the seat, reports stated.
Owens was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, held without bond as a hold was placed on him in order for Brown to question him about the robbery.
As of Thursday no further information or charges had been filed by Statesboro Police,  said Capt. Scott Brunson.
Anyone with information regarding the armed robbery is asked to contact Brown at the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911 or 764-1542. All calls will remain confidential, he said.
