Georgia Southern University Police arrested a man Wednesday they said robbed a woman at gunpoint on Akins Boulevard.
Steven Lynburg McLeod, 21, who police said was staying at Best Western Hotel, was arrested near the scene and charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon in a school safety zone, and giving false information to an officer, said GSU spokesman Paul Floeckher.
Police did not have a permanent address for McLeod available Thursday.
The victim, an East Georgia College student, told police McLeod approached her around 11:51 p.m.  on Akins Boulevard, held her at gunpoint, and stole her bag.
She was not injured, police said.
The incident is being investigated by the Georgia Southern University Public Safety Department of Criminal Investigations, Floeckher said.
McLeod was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he is being held without bond, facing further court action, according to jail records.
