Bulloch County students and parents have a chance to explore new schools, meet new teachers and greet fellow students this evening during the system-wide open house event.
Students attending elementary schools such as Mill Creek, Langston Chapel, Julia P. Bryant, Stilson, Nevils, Portal, Sallie Zetterower and Mattie Lively, are invited to drop by between 4 and 6 p.m. Thursday.
Students who going Portal Middle, Langston Chapel Middle, Southeast Bulloch Middle and William James Middle schools will have open house from 5-7 p.m., according to information from the Bulloch County Schools Central Office.
Students who will be attending Portal, Statesboro and Southeast Bulloch High Schools will gather for open house between 5 and 8 p.m.
Bulloch County School Superintendent Dr. Lewis Holloway said open house events are important for both students and parents, and said he hopes attendance for the events is high.
That both students and parents attend the open house “is vitally important,” he said. ‘You get to meet the new teacher, see the new classrooms and exchange information.”
For some, the school may be the same one a student attended last year, but with a new teacher and classroom. Others will be attending particular schools for the first time, and yet other students will be the first ones to occupy newly constructed schools such as the new Julia P. Bryant Elementary School on Stockyard Road, and the new Portal Middle/High School on U.S. 80 West in Portal.
“This is an exciting time,” Holloway said. “Some will get an opportunity to see the new schools for the first time.”
