An elderly woman who drove all the way through the Statesboro Jersey Mike’s restaurant Wednesday will not be charged.

Statesboro Police Deputy Chief Rob Bryan said the woman, who was not injured, accidentally crashed through the store, shattering glass windows, scattering tables and chairs and narrowly missing the few customers inside.

The restaurant on South Main Street installed new windows on both sides of the store and was open for business Thursday.

One man was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and others were treated at the scene for minor issues, he said.

Witnesses at the scene just after the crash said the driver may have been confused, thinking she was in reverse and then accidentally stepping on the gas instead of the brake pedal. Her car came to a rest outside the side of the building.
