A Metter man was killed Friday in a hit-and-run accident, and police hope citizens can help shed light on the case.

Johnny Merchison, 54, was killed when the bicycle he was riding on was involved in a collision with an unknown vehicle at the intersection of Lee and North Trapnell Streets around 3:50 p.m., said Metter Police Chief Dennis Nelson.

“The other vehicle involved in the collision with Mr. Merchison left the scene without rendering aid or reporting the collision to police,” he said.   “We are searching for witnesses to this horrific crash and are aggressively pursuing leads.”

Investigators are looking for two “vehicles of interest” seen in the area; a red cab tractor trailer logging truck without a load, and a white pick-up truck.

“We ask that if anyone has information on this collision to please come forward and contact the Metter Police Department,” he said.

Anyone  with information on this case is asked to contact Senior Police Officer Ryan Oliver at 912-685-5437 or
