Metter police arrested two juveniles and an adult they say were caught in the act of burglarizing a store Tuesday night.

Around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers "responded to a burglary alarm at the JP Mart on Cedar Street," said Metter Police Chief Dennis Nelson in a statement released Wednesday evening.

"Upon arrival, Officer David Gonzalez located an open door and entered the building. Officer Gonzalez encountered an individual hiding inside and had other officers set up a perimeter around the business to prevent the escape of the suspect."

Moments later, the suspect made his way onto the roof of the building from an inside access point in an attempt to escape, and Gonzalez discovered two more suspects were also hiding on the roof of the building, Nelson said. All three suspects were taken into custody without further incident.

Two suspects are juvenile males. The adult male, Kelvin Wright, whose age and address were not immediately available Wednesday, and the juveniles were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, Nelson said.

The Candler County Sheriff's Office and the Metter Fire Department assisted with the arrest.
