Bulloch County Sheriff’s investigators are seeking information about an incident Saturday involving a man getting shot in the leg on Westside Road.

The victim, who spoke with investigators at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, where he sought treatment, said he was standing on his girlfriend’s porch at a home on Westside Road, near the old Westside School, smoking a cigarette when the incident took place, according to Bulloch County Sheriff’s Capt. Todd Hutchens.

The victim told deputies he heard a gunshot and then felt a “burning pain in his thigh,” and realized he had been shot, sheriff’s incident reports stated,

He said he called a friend from his sister;’s house several miles away on Westside Road near Bulloch Academy, and the friend drove him to the hospital.

At the hospital, the victim’s friend left him in the emergency room, refusing to stay and give a statement, and drove away in the victim’s car, Hutchens said.

The victim was treated and released for a wound from what appeared to be a small caliber bullet that went through the man’s thigh. A projectile was not recovered, he said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Inv. Reid Odom at 812-764-1771.
