Police
charged a Lanier Drive man Tuesday with child molestation after a week-long
investigation.
The incident reportedly occurred at a West Grady Street Extension location March 3, but the juvenile victim and the child’s mother did not report the alleged sexual battery until March 18, said Statesboro police Capt. James Winskey.
The case is listed as “sexual battery against a child under 16,” but Nequodric Q. Whitfield, 24, was arrested Tuesday on charges of child molestation, he said.
Around 4:30
p.m. Monday, March 18, the victim and mother “came to the Police Department and
reported inappropriate touching of the juvenile victim by an adult,” he said.
The case was turned over to detectives with the SPD Criminal Investigation Division
for further investigation, which resulted in Whitfield’s arrest, he said.
Whitfield was transported and booked on the charge at the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains without bond pending further court action, according to jail records.
