A man police said threatened a woman with a metal baseball bat and robbed her of a bank deposit Saturday was captured and charged in the incident, along with an accomplice, said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York.
Several witnesses in the area were helpful in solving the crime, he said.
Statesboro Police officers responded Saturday evening to Sea Island Bank's Mall branch on Lovett Street, where a woman told them she had been robbed of a bank deposit.
The victim said she was at the night deposit drive-thru location when a man approached her, threatened her with a metal baseball bat, and took the money.
He fled on foot, but "several attentive citizens in the area" who were witnesses to the incident told detectives Ken Scott, Rob Bryan, Keith Holloway and Det. Sgt. James Winskey they saw the man running down Lovett Street, where he was picked up at Verizon Wireless by a man in a white Chevrolet Trailblazer, York said.
Further investigation led to police identifying the man who robbed the victim as Bryan Patrick Hamilton, 35, Goodman Street, Brooklet; and his accomplice, Anthony Tummoris "Tank" Hill, 21, Black Creek Church Road, Brooklet.
Both were charged with armed robbery and  taken to the Bulloch County Jail to await bond, York said.
