A man has been charged with killing another man and critically wounding a woman Saturday morning at a residence on Hart Lane, Statesboro police said Saturday evening.
Dennis R. Weaver, 42, of Twin City, was charged with with murder and aggravated assault after both people were stabbed at 9:30 a.m., Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release.
Police said Weaver stabbed Lashika Weaver and Marion Lamonte Wiggs in the home. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Dennis Weaver and arrested him, the news release says.
Both Lashika Weaver and Wiggs were taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch said Saturday evening that Wiggs was pronounced dead at 10:02 a.m. in the hospital. He added that it appeared Wiggs was stabbed "multiple times."
Wiggs' body will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy, Futch said.
Lashika Weaver was taken from East Georgia hospital to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, where she is in critical condition, police said.
The police news release said more information will be released as it becomes available. Police did not state the relationship between Dennis Weaver and Lashika Weaver and Wiggs or a motive.
