Man, 19, charged in molestation of 8-year-old relative

After an investigation lasting four months, a Bulloch County sheriff's investigator charged a 19-year-old man with molesting an 8-year-old relative.

Norris Barnwell, of Leefield Station Road near Brooklet, is charged with aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy against a child under age 10 and enticing a child for indecent purposes, according to Bulloch County Jail records.

"On Sept. 14, the mother of an 8-year-old female arrived at the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office to file a report regarding the molestation of the child by a family member," said Bulloch County sheriff's Chief Deputy Jared Akins.

"Investigator John Quattlebaum spoke with the mother, and a forensic interview was performed with the child."

It was determined that the molestation took place at a home on Leefield Station Road, he said.

"As the victim in the case currently resides in another state, the case required significant time to investigate," he said.

Quattlebaum took Barnwell into custody Friday.

He is being held without bond at the Bulloch County Jail pending further judicial action, according to jail records.
