A woman shot in the face Sunday morning remains in fair condition and police still seek the person responsible.
Statesboro Police officers responded around 3 a.m. Sunday to Morris Heights Apartments, building 6, where Latoya Hamilton, 27, was found “inside her apartment with a single gunshot wound to the face,” said Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner.
Hamilton told detectives she “opened her door after someone knocked on it” and upon opening the door “she was shot in the face by an unknown person,” he said.
Statesboro Police Major Scott Brunson said Hamilton did not say whether the offender was male or female and said she didn’t know who shot her. The bullet entered her face near the nasal area and exited elsewhere, he said.
While her injuries “are not life-threatening,” they were serious, he said.
Bulloch County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported Hamilton to East Georgia Regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries, Turner said. “The victim was later transported to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah for further treatment.” She is listed in stable condition, he said.
Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact the Criminal Investigative Bureau of the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911. Detective Keith Holloway is assigned as the lead detective investigating this case.
