Party Impressions on South Main Street was closed Thursday after a fire caused significant damage to the business Wednesday evening.

A South Main Street business suffered significant damage Wednesday night, and firefighters aren’t sure of the cause.

Statesboro fire Chief Tim Grams said Party Impressions suffered “significant damage” on the interior. The business stocks a great deal of flammables such as party decorations, paper goods and novelties.

The fire occurred around 6:45 p.m., around the same time Statesboro experienced a storm with lots of lightning, but Grams said a lightning strike was not the cause of the fire.

Statesboro firefighters arrived to see “heavy smoke” rolling out of the roof but quickly entered and doused the flames before the entire structure was lost, he said.

“They did a good job to get a stop on it,” Grams said.

A firefighter was slightly injured during the battle but was treated at the scene.

Reports list the cause as “undetermined,” but Grams feels the source of ignition may have been electrical.

There is no suspicion of foul play, he said.
