Inside Bulloch Business with DeWayne Grice - Ollie's opening features NASCAR's Kahne
Ollies Statesboro
Ollie's Bargain outlet is located in the old Fred's, next to 180 Fitness, will open officially at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Fresh off of his Brickyard 400 win at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne will be in Statesboro to welcome fans at the grand opening of the brand new Ollie's Bargain Outlet in College Plaza.
Ollie's Bargain outlet is located in the old Fred's, next to 180 Fitness, will open officially at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
"Statesboro makes sense for our growth strategy," said Jerry Altland, vice president of real estate for Ollie's." The demographics are good and positive growth is projected. We currently operate stores in Hinesville and Dublin and hope to be in the Savannah market soon. We are projecting 15- to 20-percent growth in new stores annually."
Exactly 250 tickets will be distributed at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday for the Kahne autograph session Statesboro store. Tickets are limited to one per customer, and the autograph session will begin at 10 a.m.
Entering the 2017 season with Hendrick Motorsports, Kasey Kahne has earned 17 career NASCAR Cup Series wins and five playoff berths. Kahne is also the owner of Kasey Kahne Racing, formed in 2005 in the World of Outlaws series. In 2013, KKR's No. 9 team won the WOO championship, making Kahne a first-time champion team owner.
And as for Ollie's, the sore markets itself as having thousands of bargains under one roof. The Statesboro store is the 250th Ollie's Bargain Outlet. Ollie's has leased 29,000 square feet of retail space between 180 Fitness and Coconut Thai Cuisine in College Plaza.
Ollie's is a value-oriented retailer established in 1982 in Harrisburg, Pa. The corporate office remains in Harrisburg, where they manage operations of the 250-store chain. Ollie's niche is in purchasing brand name products from retailers and selling them to consumers at discounted retail prices.
I view shopping at Ollie's much like a treasure hunt. If you see an item you like, you need to buy it because it probably won't be there the next time you visit.
Ollie's is named after one of the original founders, Ollie Rosenberg. Ollie was in the military and everyone in the Harrisburg area knew Ollie, so it was a natural fit to brand it after him. For that reason, the store has military themed signage that pokes fun at themselves.
One other market niche for Ollie's is their large supply of discounted books and floor covering. Those are two more ways they differentiate themselves from their competitors.
Ollie's planned to hire 45 to 55 associates for the Statesboro store and the response was so overwhelming, they will open fully staffed on opening day.
According to local real estate broker, Wayne Groover, who is the managing broker for College Plaza, the owners have refurbished the sign, upgraded the parking lot and enhanced the exterior of the building, in addition to the extensive buildout.
College Plaza has 100,000 square feet of total leasable space. Ollie's Bargain Outlet will be a welcome addition to College Plaza and compliment the other businesses there. Statesboro shoppers love a bargain and this place will have plenty of bargains for them.
