In his travels around District 12, Congressman John Barrow said one thing everybody’s worried about is health care.
“I’m working hard in Washington to fix health care, but I also want to do something here at home to help,” he said.
On Saturday, Barrow will be the host of a health fair for Statesboro-area residents from 9 a.m. to noon inside the Averitt Center in downtown Statesboro.
Barrow said the fair would bring local health care organizations together in one place so people can get answers to some health questions, get advice and learn how to save money on health care.
Health care professionals will be on hand to administer free screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, offer advice on how to save money on prescription drugs and talk about nutrition and fitness.
“Times are tough right now,” Barrow said, “but I hope folks will stop by and take advantage of these services, get some information about keeping their family healthy and, hopefully, get some peace of mind.”
The following is a partial list of organizations that will have representatives at the Health Fair:
Ogeechee Technical College
Hearts and Hands Clinic
Bulloch Senior Center
DaVita Dialysis
Ogeechee Hospice
Cooperative Extension Service
Georgia State Patrol
Georgia Department of Family and Children Services
Social Security Administration
