An Effingham County woman was killed when she was thrown from a vehicle in a one-vehicle crash Saturday morning.

According to a preliminary report from the Georgia State Patrol, Roxanne Watkins Wilharm, 51, of Guyton, was a passenger in a 2003 Ford Explorer driven by John Wesley Eaton, also of Guyton. They were driving west on Interstate 16, approximately six miles from Highway 67, when Eaton apparently lost control of the vehicle and drove into the median. The vehicle overturned several times, ejecting Wilharm.

She was pronounced dead at the scene while Eaton was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah for treatment.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:54 a.m. and is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
