Dr. Michael Guido, hospitalized recently for pneumonia and other illnesses, took a turn toward improvement Saturday.
Doctors notified family and friends of Guido Friday that his condition was “deteriorating,” according to information from Lila Williams, spokesperson for Guido Gardens in Metter,  base for Guido’s internationally known ministries.
Larry Guido, Dr. Guido’s brother, sent an e-mail to friends Friday asking for prayers and explaining that the renowned evangelist had overexerted himself during December’s “Night of Lights” celebration at Guido Gardens. The celebration is a month-long display of thousands of lights, with spiritual messages as well as novelty displays geared towards children.
Guido visits with those who come to the “Night of Lights,” but the exertion this year overtaxed the man who created the “Seeds from the Sower” devotionals. Guido will be 94 Jan. 30.
He suffered pneumonia, in addition to a diabetes-related infection in his toes, that was exacerbated by breathing difficulties, Larry Guido said.  Doctors did not have a positive prognosis Friday.
However, “Saturday, he turned in the opposite direction,” Williams said. Monday, Guido “called for (wife) Audrey to come eat lunch with him” at Candler County Hospital.
Guido remains “very weak,” however, and his recovery “is not  going to be an overnight thing,” she said.
This is not the first time Guido has shown an amazing recovery, she said. “This is more proof that prayer works.”
