Green author to speak at GSU
Hunter Lovins
Well known author, consultant and promoter of sustainable development Hunter Lovins will present the lecture, “Drivers of Change: The Business Case for Sustainability and Protecting the Climate,” at Georgia Southern University’s Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. today.
Sponsored jointly by the Campus Life Enrichment Committee and the Allen E. Paulson College of Science and Technology’s Office of Sustainability, Lovins is the second speaker in the Sustainability Seminar Series.
Named Time magazine’s Hero of the Planet in 2000, Lovins is president and founder of Natural Capitalism Solutions. NCS works with companies, communities and countries on ways to use resources more efficiently – and more profitably.
On her Web site, Lovins states that the world is now faced with “enormous challenges” such as rising energy prices and the loss of major ecosystems. However, she points out that there is time to hold off climate change through energy efficiency – in your community and in your own home.
“We have all the answers that we need,” Lovins said. “We have all the technology that we need to solve the problems. What we lack is the political will, the realization on the part of people that, if you simply look at your own life and what you can do – and we all do it together – it will be enough.”
