A Glennville man was charged with armed robbery after police officers spotted him near the scene of the crime Tuesday night.

A 20-year-old male victim told Statesboro police a man held him at gunpoint on East Cherry Street at 11:23 p.m. Tuesday, robbing him of a small amount of cash, according to police incident reports.

Officers quickly located a suspect on Savannah Avenue “exactly matching” the description given by the victim and took Branden Rashad Lanier, 27, into custody.

Lanier, of East China Street in Glennville, was taken to the Bulloch County Jail and booked on charges of armed robbery, obstruction and wanted person, according to jail records. He is wanted by Glennville police on unrelated charges of theft by conversion, according to a Glennville police clerk.

There was no report of injury.

Lanier is being held in the Bulloch County Jail without bond. The case remains under investigation, reports stated. Anyone with information is asked to call the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911.
