Investigators are seeking clues surrounding the death of a man found on the side of a Candler County roadway.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent-in-Charge Cathy Sapp said agents are "looking for a person of interest" regarding the death of Perry Herbert, 24.
Sapp did not have an address for Herbert, whose body was discovered around 5 p.m. Saturday on Excelsior Church Road in Excelsior, a Candler County community near Metter and Pulaski.
She did not disclose the manner or cause of his death, citing an ongoing investigation.
Candler County Sheriff Homer Bell said Monday he knew nothing about the case except that sheriff's Investigator Melvin Ivey was conducting an investigation along with GBI agents.
"I haven't seen (Ivey) since Saturday," he said after refusing to give Ivey a message to return calls from a reporter seeking information on the case.
Ivey, who was reached by phone Monday evening, said Bell instructed him to refer calls from media to the Statesboro GBI office.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Statesboro GBI office at (912) 871-1121 or Candler County Sheriff's Office at (912) 685-2568.
