Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents, along with Screven County sheriff’s investigators, are looking into the death of a woman whose body was found in a burned home Tuesday.

GBI agents were asked to assist in the investigation, said Statesboro’s Region 5 GBI Special Agent-in-Charge Bill Bodrey.

The woman, whose identity was not immediately released Tuesday evening due to the fact that all family members had not been notified, was found in the home on Statesboro Highway in Cooperville, said Screven County Sheriff’s Inv. Brett Dickerson.

The fire was reported around 12:30 p.m., and Sylvania firefighters, along with Screven County sheriff’s deputies, responded.

Dickerson said the cause of the fire had not yet been determined Tuesday evening and the incident was still being investigated.

Bodrey said agents from his office were contacted and responded to the scene, along with himself, around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
