On Friday, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent-in-Charge Cathy Sapp released the identity of an inmate found dead in the Bulloch County Jail on Thursday evening.
No foul play is suspected in the death of Michael Leon Deloach, 28, of Success Court, she said.
GBI special agents were awaiting the results of an autopsy performed at the agency's Savannah crime lab Friday, but because the investigation remains open, Sapp said she would not yet release the cause and manner of death.
According to a release from Jared Akins, chief deputy with the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office, deputies working in the jail division were conducting a routine inmate count around 6:30 p.m. Thursday when they found Deloach "unresponsive in a single-person cell."
Deputies followed jail protocol and summoned medical assistance while securing the scene, Akins said. The inmate was pronounced dead a short time later.
The GBI was contacted to investigated, as policy dictates regarding inmate deaths, he said.
Deloach had been jailed since Feb. 29 for a felony probation violation, according to jail records.
