Fourth of July festivities at Mill Creek to begin at 4 p.m.

Walkers taking a stroll around Mill Creek Park Tuesday pass by a stage set up for Wednesday's Fourth of July celebration.
    A brilliant fireworks display will light up the night sky as the highlight of the annual Firecracker Fest held at Mill Creek Regional Park today.
    The festivities begin at 4 p.m. with inflatable games and a rock climbing wall while The Variations provide musical entertainment. At 5:30 p.m., the baseball/softball skills contest will begin as well as the popular greased pole climb and frog jumping contest.
    At 6 p.m., Statesboro Karate and the ATA Blackbelt Academy will be presenting community demonstrations and an hour later, the Subway Sub Eating contest will begin.
    Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the Statesboro Blues Band will take the stage and play until 11 p.m. with an intermission around 9 p.m. to allow for the fireworks show.
    Traffic leaving the main entrance of Mill Creek will be directed left towards Veterans Memorial Parkway for access to both Highway 80 and Highway 301. Those leaving from the back entrance of Mill Creek will be directed to Beasley Road towards Highway 80. Cars parked at Mill Creek Elementary School will be directed down Beasley Road while cars parked at Bible Baptist, Trinity Episcopal and Barnes Lumber will be directed right on Highway 24 towards the bypass.
