Former Statesboro police chief Stan York recently was named president of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. York currently serves as director of Police Services for Sandersville.
As president of the association, which represents more than 550 police chiefs and other law enforcement heads, part of York’s responsibilities include chairing the association’s executive board, appointing all committee members and district representatives.
With more than 37 years of law enforcement experience, most of which he served with Statesboro Police, York said he is looking forward to the new experience. He began his law enforcement career in 1974 with the Tifton Police Department. In 1976, he was hired by the Statesboro Police Department and began his climb through the ranks.
During his tenure in Statesboro, he held every rank in the agency and was promoted to police chief in September 2001. He retired June 2010 after the department’s chief position was eliminated during a restructuring of city departments. Shortly afterward he was hired as Sandersville’s police services director.
York attended Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College (1976), Georgia Southern University (1978), Columbus State University Command College (2007), and FBI National Academy (1986).
He is married to Kathy York. They have one daughter, Jordana Linn York Childree.
