A fire Sunday afternoon on East Grady Street severely damaged a vacant home before Statesboro firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

Statesboro Fire Chief Tim Grams said firefighters received the call about the fire at 110 E. Grady St. just before 2 p.m. Sunday.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, “It was pretty heavily involved,” he said.

No one was in the house, which has been vacant for several months, he said.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation; Monday, firefighters were still unsure of how it started, he said.

The house, owned by Camden Pointe LLC – the company’s listed owner is Chris Grooms of Glennville – was an older structure that had been remodeled, and “presented some challenge” to extinguish, Grams said. “But the guys did a great job.”

Anyone with information about the fire may call the Statesboro Fire Department at (912) 764-3473 (FIRE).
