Child abuse prevention projects in Bulloch County will benefit more than ever before thanks to a record breaking fund-raising effort by the Statesboro Exchange Club.

Earlier this week, the Exchange Club announced that during its annual Strikeout Child Abuse Bowling Tournament, more than $21,000 was raised. Club treasurer Christina Harrell made the announcement during a luncheon earlier this week.

The tournament, held Sept. 12 at The Clubhouse, raised $21,012, which was $5,000 over the goal. The event started in 2017 and has raised more than $50,000 to help fund child abuse prevention projects in the county.

At the Sept. 12 event, there were 33 total bowling teams, 30 Shoot Out sponsors, 40 table sponsors and 2 in kind sponsors, including the Statesboro Herald. Renesant Bank was the presenting sponsor for the event.

More than 25 Exchange Club members volunteered to assist with the event.
