A drive-by shooting in Swainsboro Monday left one person dead and another injured, said Emanuel County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Rocky Davis.

Angela Gillis, 40, King Circle Drive, died at Emanuel County Medical Center of injuries sustained in the shooting. Kenneth Gillis, 48, also of King Circle Drive, was first taken to the medical center, then flown to an Augusta hospital for treatment of injuries, and is in stable condition, he said.

Emanuel County Sheriff’s deputies and Emanuel County EMS were dispatched to the Gillis residence around 1:30 a.m. Monday in response to the shooting and discovered the wounded victims, he said.

“Investigation into the matter thus far has revealed that a suspect or suspects fired a number of rounds into the residence from the roadway, with a concentration of the shots being directed toward the master bedroom of the residence,” said Emanuel County Sheriff Tyson Stephens. “A number of the bullets penetrated the window and wall of the residence, striking the victims.” Based on evidence gathered so far in the case, Stephens does not consider this to be a random shooting, he said.

The Eastman office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and its Crime Scene Unit are assisting with the investigation. Anyone with information helpful to or related to the case is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (478) 237-7526 or the GBI at (478) 364-6988. All information will remain confidential.
