An elderly Cobbtown man was killed Tuesday in a crash with a fertilizer spreader.
Georgia State Patrol Post 45 Trooper First-Class 3 Robbie Scott responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 129 and Evergreen Road in Candler County around 4:22 p.m. Tuesday.
Alvie Hackle, 98, of Evergreen Road, was driving a white 1995 Ford Taurus, traveling south on Highway 129, Scott said.
Henry Rance Bird, 18, of Waters Road in Metter, was driving a black Vector 300 fertilizer spreader traveling north on Highway 129 when Hackle, just a mile away from his home, attempted to make a left turn onto Evergreen Road.
Hackle pulled into the path of the fertilizer spreader, which struck Hackle’s car, he said.
Bird struck a power pole after the crash, but he was not reported to be injured.
Hackle was “pronounced deceased on the scene by the Candler County coroner,” he said.
