Drug tips lead to arrest on multiple charges

Statesboro police found a handgun and an assortment of illegal drugs Thursday after several residents reported suspected drug activity at an East Jones Avenue apartment complex.

After an investigation, officers of the Statesboro Police Impact Team arrested Chico Alou Lanier, 52, of Little Lotts Creek Apartments, said Statesboro police Capt. Jared Akins.

“During the course of the investigation, officers discovered quantities of cocaine, both crack and powder; methamphetamine; prescription pain pills; marijuana; and a handgun,” he said.

Lanier was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of schedule III drugs, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of a drug-related object, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and original container required for prescription medicines. 

He was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he awaits further judicial action.
