A log truck driver ran a stop sign Wednesday morning, crossing four lanes of traffic before flipping and dumping his load into some woods.
Fortunately, there were no other vehicles in the area at the time of the wreck, said Georgia State Patrol Post 45 Trooper First Class Hunter Oglesby.
Around 5 a.m. Wednesday, Morris Powell, 66, of West Street, Vidalia, was traveling east on Highway 80 near Hopeulikit, as he approached a sharp curve just before the stop sign at the intersection of Hwy. 25, Oglesby said.
Powell failed to stop at the intersection and barreled across the four lanes of Hwy, 25, overturning his 18-wheeler in the ditch, He lost his load of logs, but they did not block traffic, he said.
However, one lane was temporarily closed while the truck was towed.
Powell, uninjured, was charged with stop sign violation and driving in violation of a conditional permit.
No other vehicles were involved, Oglesby said.
