Everyone knows of someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to serving others, and the deadline is swiftly approaching for nominating deserving citizens for the Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Awards.
Nominations will be accepted until Thursday, March 19, at 5 p.m., said Statesboro Herald President Joe McGlamery.
The Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Awards approaches its 21st year in honoring those who make a difference in the lives of others. The invitation-only gala will be held April 14 at Georgia Southern University's Nessmith-Lane building.
The typical nominee for the awards is selfless and does not seek recognition, but serves others through a variety of ways out of kindness and compassion. Whether it be through physical labor, donations of time or skill, or through financial support, citizens who place the needs of others have been the type of people honored through the awards banquet, he said.
Citizens are encouraged to consider others they know to spend time and effort in caring for other people, charities or causes, and to submit nominations for these deserving people by mail or in person to the Statesboro Herald, to be received by Thursday, March 19, at 5 p.m., McGlamery said.
The Statesboro Herald address is P.O. Box 888, Statesboro, Ga. 30459.
