The 25th annual Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Awards will be held tonight at Georgia Southern University’s Nessmith-Lane Conference Center.
Bill Cathcart, the general manager for Savannah television station WTOC, will be keynote speaker for the invitation-only gala.
Hundreds have been honored over the years through this awards event. Deen Day Service to Mankind recipients are benevolent persons who place others before themselves and perform acts of kindness for the sake of the recipient and not for personal gain.
Award recipients, nominated by peers in the community, historically reflect a spirit of giving and compassion and have made a differences in the lives of the less fortunate; have gone out of their way to give of their time, effort and otherwise to charitable causes, and have been an asset and blessing to those in need.
Numerous local businesses and individuals participate in sponsoring the gala, hosted by the Statesboro Herald.
