The death of a woman whose body was found Tuesday in a burned Screven County mobile home was ruled a homicide.
After responding to a house fire on Statesboro Highway in the Cooperville community near Sylvania around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Screven County Sheriff's investigators found the body of Lisa Scott, 56, inside the burned home, and called for assistance from the Statesboro Region 5
Georgia Bureau of Investigation office, said Special Agent-in-Charge Bill Bodrey.
GBI agents arrived at the scene around 3:15 p.m., joining Screven County Sheriff's investigators and Screven County firefighters already present at the scene.
"Upon entry into the structure, firemen discovered a female victim inside...Scott was pronounced dead at the scene," he said. "The cause of Scott's death and the fire are currently under investigation."
Anyone with information about the case, or who may have seen any suspicious activity persons in the area of 5749 Statesboro Highway, is asked to contact the GBI at (912) 871-1121, or the Screven County Sheriff's office at (912) 564-2013, Bodrey said.
