Statesboro Police officers arrested an assistant city municipal court clerk Friday after a two-week long investigation into some missing money, said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York.
Someone reported the funds missing from the Statesboro Municipal Court building on South College Street July 9, and Det. Terry Briley opened an investigation into the matter, said SPD Capt. Scott Brunson.
After concluding the investigation Friday, officers arrested Assistant Statesboro Municipal Court Clerk Candius Miller Harris, 30,  of a Swan Lane address, on felony theft by taking charges, York said.
Harris, wife of Bulloch County Sheriff's Capt. Lee Harris, is accused of taking a total of $510 from the municipal court, he said.
Ms. Harris was placed under arrest after she turned herself in to deputies at the Bulloch County Jail Friday, as there was a warrant out for her regarding the charges.
She was later released on a $2,000 property bond, according to jail records.
Brunson said Briley led the investigation with he and Det. Sgt. James Winskey assisting.
