After a couple of years when hearings on alcoholic beverage infractions - usually for serving patrons under age 21 - were a frequent part of Statesboro City Council meetings, the council will turn future hearings over to an administrative judge. To be clear, alleged criminal violations by individuals, such as bartenders and store clerks who sell to underage customers, have always gone to the Municipal Court. What the council has handled, sometimes at length during one of its two meetings each month, were decisions on administrative penalties against the businesses' alcohol licenses.
