Two days of music and family fun will not only provide entertainment this Memorial Day weekend, but will raise money for the Children's Miracle Network.
Over a dozen bands offering an assortment of music genres will take turns playing in the Statesboro Wal-Mart parking lot Saturday and Sunday. There will also be food available, and children's games with prizes. All proceed will go to the Children's Miracle Network, said Brentt Church, Unit Sales Manager for Metter's Pepsi Bottling Group. Pepsi, along with Wal-Mart Supercenter, is hosting the event.
The main band will be Dead Man's Hand, which is also providing sound equipment. Silver Creek Saloon owner Bob Smith, a member of Silversmith, which will also play Saturday, also helped organize the event, said Susan Burke, an administrative assistant with Pepsi.
In addition to several country, Christian and other bands, there will be hip-hop and R&B groups provided by We M Pact Music, she said.
Saturday's list of bands include Dead Man's Hand, Brendon J, Silversmith, Led Message, Glenn Kearney, Turn to Red and Derek Caraway.
The bands playing Sunday include Johnny Little and the Little Big Band, Georgia Fire, RPM, Garden of Stone, and "possibly County Line," she said.
The music will start about 10 a. m. and bands will continue to play throughout the day until 8 p.m, Burke said.
"Our goal is $10,000, but I believe that we can do better than that," Church said.
Local business have been very supportive of the event, and have donated items needed such as generators, as well as food to be sold, Burke said. "Citizens are invited to bring lawn chairs and stay a while to enjoy the music as well as support the Children's Miracle Network."
