A man suspected of stealing items and pawning them faces burglary charges.

Donnie Chad Hendrix, 40, of Womack Road East in Portal, was charged Friday with first-degree burglary (felony) and theft by taking firearm, said Bulloch County Sheriff Lynn Anderson.

A Harold Howell Road resident reported the burglary Thursday, and a witness told deputies about seeing a suspicious vehicle in the victim’s driveway, he said. The victim reported the theft of various electronics and a shotgun.

Senior Deputy William Simms and Capt. Todd Hitchens responded to the scene for an investigation, and the next day, “Hutchens located items stolen (during) the burglary in a pawn shop in Metter,” Anderson said.

Hutchens and Simms recovered the items and issued warrants for Hendrix, who had pawned the stolen items. Simms and Hutchens located and arrested Hendrix during a traffic stop on Highway 25 later that day, Anderson said.

Hendrix was also found “in possession of prescription medications,” he said.

He was taken to the Bulloch County Jail, where he awaits further court appearances, Anderson said.
