Nearly 100 Special Olympians gathered Friday at Statesboro High School's Womack Field for the 2011 Bulloch County Special Olympics.

Athletes competed in traditional events such as the 25, 50 and 100-meter walk/run, long jump and softball toss. But they also participated in a Simon Says competition, created some arts and crafts and ran atop a wooden horse in an unusual relay race.

Organizers said the fun part of the games was added to keep all the athletes engaged and to make their experience even more enjoyable.
