Sheriff's investigators charged a Brooklet man with child molestation Tuesday after he reportedly touched a juvenile girl inappropriately.

After about a month's investigation, during which she gathered evidence, Bulloch County sheriff's Investigator Prethenia Cone conducted a search warrant on the Troy Street, Brooklet, home of Thomas Eugene Howard, 60, said Bulloch County Sheriff Noel Brown  in a statement released Thursday.

Cone collected witness statements and evidence and issued a warrant for Howard's arrest, he said.

Bulloch County sheriff's Capt. Todd Hutchens said the victim is a 12-year-old female who is "not a blood relative" to Howard but is someone who is known to him.

As further investigation progresses, additional charges are possible, he said.

Howard is being held without bond in the Bulloch County Jail.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact Cone at (912) 764-1703.
