Gray skies and threatening weather reports could not deter families and plant lovers alike.

More than 1,000 people visited Saturday's Annual Botanical Garden Plant Sale and Whirligig Festival at the Georgia Southern Botanical Garden.

Garden Assistant Director Bob Randolph attributed the success to the combination of a farmers market, vendors and entertainment."It was definitely one of the biggest plant sales we've had over the years," said Randolph. "We were worried the weather might scare some people off, but cars were parked all over the neighborhood."

Gardeners would have to wait to plant their new additions, however. The skies opened up within a few minutes after the event ended at 2 p.m.
